Work motivation gives you the energy to go. The focus to sit at your desk and start your work. The drive to stay at your desk and finish your work.
You want more motivation to work. You have things to do, and goals to achieve, and habits to create. You have all this stuff to do! But sometimes you don't want to do it.
It happens to everyone sometimes. We don't want to work at every moment, and that's normal. Sometimes it's because you're tired after working really hard. Or maybe there's some task you've been putting off for a while ("Gee, I need to go to the gym...maybe tomorrow.") because it's difficult in some way. Sometimes we don't want to work because we just had a bad experience, like an argument with a spouse or a co-worker, and that bad energy is still with us, making it hard to concentrate. Or maybe you have trouble staying motivated because you didn't sleep enough last night and today everything is a bit hazy.
You have this big to-do list and you're not sure you'll be able to do it. And then what happens?
Exactly. Maybe you get distracted by other tasks that need to get done, but aren't as important. Or you might sneak in a guilty pleasure like Facebook or emailing friends. Meanwhile, you have a lot of things to do, and you don't know how you're going to get through it all.
But you know that it's not always like that. Instead sometimes you feel really motivated. You jump into action easily. You're really concentrated and focused. Ideas come to you quickly. You know just what to say, what to write, and what to do. And you get a lot of stuff accomplished. That's the feeling of motivation.
Damn right you do! It feels amazing. You check things off your to do list. You manage your time easily. You figure out solutions to problems. You become more successful at your work. And you feel so productive. It feels like the world is at your fingertips. You can get anything done, and all those challenges just move aside so you can plow through.
What if you could?
That's a surprising statement, I know. How could it be possible to control your own work motivation? But just imagine it was possible for a second. You start off feeling unmotivated and blech, and you don't feel like working. Then you do an action that's special, something you can't imagine right now. And after you're done, you suddenly feel way more motivated. You have lots of energy, you're ready to tackle that project, and everything falls into place for you.
All you'd need is that "action that's special".
